Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women’s Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.
Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.
Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.
Position Summary
The Athletics Mental Health Case Manager position is responsible for coordinating comprehensive mental health care for UNC-CH Student-Athletes through triage, evaluation, treatment planning, consultation, and referral procedures to support access to care, wraparound services, and consistent communication within an integrated care model. This individual will develop relationships within the athletic department, the university, and the community to effectively support student-athletes. There is potential for a licensed provider to carry a small clinical caseload. This individual will work within an integrated healthcare model as part of the Sports Medicine staff. The Athletics Mental Health Case Manager must operate in a highly ethical manner and maintain confidential record-keeping systems in keeping with North Carolina State Law governing the delivery of psychological services.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Relevant professional degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health practice.
- Licensed or license-eligible in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
- Experience providing case management, crisis intervention, brief assessment/triage, and care coordination.
- Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health and sports medicine providers.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully, and appropriately with varied populations in the Department, the University, and the community.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, clients, faculty, staff, and parents.
- Excellent written and electronic communication.
- Able to efficiently and effectively maintain documentation and record-keeping utilizing Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Capable of handling multiple tasks in a high-stress environment.
- Able to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and ACC Conference Rules, UNC Academic Standards, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
- Able to efficiently operate a personal computer using Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with EMR systems.
- Able to complete educational, NCAA, and criminal background checks, which will be required of the successful applicant.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Masters in Social Work or Counseling.
- Experience providing case management services in a mental health clinic.
- Experience in collegiate settings.
- Demonstrated experience working with a variety of student populations from different backgrounds.
- Experience and/or understanding of athletic culture.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
- Occasional after-hours/weekend communication for crisis situations (not a formal on-call expectation).
