About Us:
The Children’s Place Child Advocacy Center (TCP CAC) works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide effective, immediate and sensitive evaluations and support to children and families impacted by child maltreatment. Our mission is to offer hope and healing to children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect through a coordinated community response.
About the Role:
We are seeking a full or part-time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse, preferably with some training and experience in pediatrics and the medical evaluation for child abuse and neglect. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes family advocates, child protection workers, law enforcement officers, and mental health providers to assess and treat children with suspected sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other forms of maltreatment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct clinical services to include medical forensic examinations of child abuse victims (sexual, physical and neglect)
- Coordinate care with families, investigators and community providers
- Complete electronic health records documenting clinical services in a timely manner
- Provide clinical consultation to partner agencies and multidisciplinary team members regarding medical issues related to child abuse & neglect
- Participate in regular case and peer review for TCP
- Provide testimony as needed in criminal and/or juvenile court regarding medical examination and/or consultation of child abuse/neglect victims
- Meet quality of care standards as established by the Medical Director
Requirements
- One to three years' experience in pediatrics
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed in Alaska as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse
- Effective communication skills including ability to work with children and families in stressful situations who come from diverse backgrounds, as well as agency partners
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, electronic health record systems
- Preferred:
o Training and experience in the medical evaluation of child abuse and neglect, however training and on-going training and mentorship will be provided by The Children’s Place if a candidate meets other qualifications
o Completion of a 40-hour didactic SANE program. If not done prior, hired candidates will be required to complete this training with a certain number (depending on experience) of exams performed under observation/supervision.
