Position Summary
Mineral Surgery Center is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Nursing (RN Clinical Director) to lead the clinical operations of our ophthalmologic ambulatory surgery center. This leadership role blends hands-on clinical participation with administrative oversight and team leadership. The Director of Nursing collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and administrative leadership to ensure the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, staff engagement, and operational excellence.

- Primary Responsibilities – Patient Care & Clinical Oversight
- Applies accepted clinical nursing principles and perioperative standards to all patient care activities
- Coordinates patient care with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure continuity and safety
- Participates in direct patient care as needed across pre-op, intra-op, and PACU areas
- Oversees all clinical areas to verify patient needs and safety standards are consistently met
- Enforces nursing practice standards and licensing/accreditation regulations
- Promotes a culture of safety, quality, and patient satisfaction
Primary Responsibilities – Daily Operations & Staff Leadership
- Directly supervises clinical and support staff; conducts performance evaluations and mentoring
- Develops staffing schedules based on surgical volume, time-off requests, and holidays
- Prepares daily assignments and delegates duties based on skill level and experience
- Coordinates procedure scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing and efficient patient flow
- Reviews clinical documentation for compliance with policies and standards
- Serves as liaison between patients, families, physicians, anesthesia providers, and staff
- Monitors daily operations for efficiency and reports deficiencies to the Administrator
- Oversees supply and equipment inventory; ensures cost-effective resource utilization
Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance
- Maintains current knowledge of Colorado state regulations, CMS Conditions for Coverage, and accrediting-body standards (e.g., AAAHC/Joint Commission)
- Develops, interprets, and implements policies and procedures to maintain compliance
- Leads quality improvement, infection prevention, and risk management initiatives
- Prepares for and participates in accreditation and regulatory surveys
- Ensures credentialing, competencies, and staff education requirements are met
Requirements
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered RN license in Colorado or compact state
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a surgical/perioperative setting (ASC preferred)
- Prior leadership or management experience strongly preferred
- Ophthalmology surgical experience preferred
- Advanced education in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field (preferred)
- Strong computer literacy and EMR proficiency
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
