Summer Camp Nurse- Camp Uncommon
All positions are seasonal and require team members to live on-site for the duration of camp (including training) unless otherwise agreed upon during the interview/hiring process.
Camp Uncommon is seeking a Nurse to join our health center team. The Health Center Team is responsible for ensuring the health, wellness and safety of all campers and team members.
Dates of position:
Orientation/Training : June 16th-June 23rd, 2026
Camper Sessions (3 total):
- June 24th-July 5th, 2026
- July 8th- July 19th, 2026
- July 22nd- August 2nd, 2026
Location: 83 Powhatan Rd, Otisfield, ME 04270 (Nestled in a beautiful lakeside setting in Maine!)
Compensation & Benefits:
Summer Pay: $8,400
On-campus housing

About Us
Camp Uncommon is all about providing children from our partner schools a safe, fun summer to explore and build community. We believe in every child’s right to accessible, enriching summer experiences filled with joy and opportunities to develop critical skills for a successful future. Camp serves ~600 campers (entering grades 4-7)) over those 3 two-week sessions.
Camp Uncommon belongs to the Change Summer family of camps. Change Summer works in partnership with high achieving charter schools to offer an enriching summer experience for their students. Our dedicated staff are the heart and soul of what we do and simply put we could not change summer for thousands of children without them.
Requirements
Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing camper health forms and reporting health needs to Head Nurse and/or Camp Director
- Administering camper prescription medications as directed
- Providing nursing care as outlined in the Standing Orders and Health Center Procedures Manual
- Assessing campers and counselors who are ill or injured and determine if further medical attention is needed
- Assisting in stabilizing campers and counselors requiring transportation to medical facilities
- Communicating with families regarding camper health concerns
- Documenting all health center visits and care rendered. This involves documentation of all over-the counter medicines, first aid treatment, and communication with parents, doctors/nurse practitioners or any other off-camp facilities
- Maintaining inventory of supplies
- Keeping the Health Center clean and organized
- Working collaboratively with the Head Nurse and all Health Center team members to support the success of the Health Center mission.
Required certifications and experience:
- Active RN Licensure in the State of Maine. Camp offers reimbursement for obtaining State licensure if necessary
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Experience working with and/or desire to work with school-aged children
- Ability to communicate effectively with families
- Desire to work in an outdoor, camp setting
- Ability to work collaboratively to promote a positive and inclusive work environment
- A willingness to receive and implement feedback in order to grow and develop
- A personality and character that exudes flexibility, self-awareness, integrity, curiosity, kindness, and patience
- Availability to work for the entire camper season (including 1 week of team training and 3 two-week camper sessions).
